Kinross College Rangers

Kinross Police Rangers is a great opportunity for students in Years 8-12 to learn leadership skills, forge friendships and build respect and discipline. As the Rangers program is under the banner of Cadets WA, students are able to participate in the program at a heavily subsidised cost.

The Kinross Police Rangers Unit is the current State Champion. Our teams came 1st and 3rd in the State competition last year, winning every element (between the two teams), of the three daycompetition. The Rangers, representing Kinross College, were from Years 8-11, ranging in ranks from Probationary Ranger, Ranger, Ranger First Class, Ranger Senior to Ranger Sergeant. These Rangers are now sharing skills they learned with all Rangers in the unit, through leadership activities.

Parade takes place every Monday throughout term from 3.30pm - 5.00pm. At this time the Rangers participate in a plethora of fun, skill building activities, both practical and theory-based. These include drill, camp skills, camp cooking, knotting, circuit training, policing, first aid, surfing, kayaking, bike education, community service and team building skills. All units covered enable students to develop necessary skills that will be utilised throughout the camps that take place every term, as well as the drill competitions, Anzac Parade, State competitions and camp programs.

The camp locations and activities range from Lancelin to Rottnest, with water-based activities in summer, rock climbing and rope courses and lastly, hikes along the Bibbulmun Track and Cape to Cape trail. Camps range from two to four days and take place over the weekends as well as school days.

Rangers are rewarded for excelling in a range of areas. They move through the ranks throughout their time in the unit, by passing the elements required, demonstrating team work and leadership skills. All Rangers graduate at the end of the year, to the next rank, in a formal ceremony.

Rangers follow a Code of Conduct where they must pledge the Ranger Oath, declaring their respect, enthusiastic and appropriate behaviour. Overall, students involved in the Police Rangers develop skills that have a positive impact on their schooling, as well as their social development.

School Carnival & Interschool Sport

Kinross college offers students the opportunity to compete against each other in a variety of school carnivals including the Junior School Cross Country, the Whole School Athletics Carnival and the Senior School Beach Carnival. These are always fantastic days where community morale is high and student behaviour and participation is outstanding. As well as our school carnivals, students have a great range of opportunities to be involved in inter-school sports and events within both the Junior and Senior school.
